Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania and lies within 100 km of Vilnius.

The city is situated at the confluence of two rivers - Neris and the Nemunas. Kaunas is surrounded by the remains of the circle of nine forts, constructed at the times of the Russian Empire. Historically significant and eye-catching architectural monuments can be found in the hospitable and ancient Old Town.

Kaunas has the largest number of museums (M.K. Čiurlionis Art Gallery, Devils’ Museum) within a single City in Lithuania and there is always an exhibition of national or international significance and interest. When the weather is fine, Laisvės Avenue, along with many of the streets feeding into it, is alive to the sound of street musicians of varying abilities.

Luxuriant and green riversides, parks, forests, clean water reservoirs (Pažaislis Abbey) and rivers add to the reputation of Kaunas as a truly beautiful city.
